As an innovative and productive researcher thought of establishing some professional institution who can work for Action Research and Sustainable Development by crystallizing his ideas about anthropological methods a holistic development apply the theories of cultural differences, bio- Social changes, interrelations of humans and their environment and such specific criteria of livelihood.

 While working in Anthropological Survey of India he reflected the outcome of his studies. He felt the need for developing and improving social practices of the community under the studies by the social scientists.

He realised the urgent need of diagnostic bio-social research for development process through identification of the problems of sustainable development and go for problem-solving actions to be implemented in a the field through community participation.

Thus he founded IBRAD, the Indian Institute of Bio-Social Research And Development with eminent Anthropologists like Prof KC Malhotra, as founder Secretary-General, Prof I P Singh, Prof S N Ratha and several of his colleagues like Mitali Chatterjee, Dr Jaya Choudhury, Dr Shila Kundu Poddar, Dr Biswanath Sarkar, Dr M Haque

With the mission : Human Understanding For Sustainable Development, IBRAD was established in the year 1985,  as a non-profit professional Bio-Social Research & Developed based Institute and recognized and supported by different state and central government of India, the Ford Foundation, DFID, Arcadis Euroconsult, SIDA, JICA and World Bank and some National and International organizations. IBRAD was established in purpose to growing need for:

  • Understanding the concepts of biological, social and other natural sciences, through systemic approach and unifying these concepts for developing a coherent body of knowledge
  • Thus applying the body of knowledge and skills through integrated training and educational programmes to address the problem of severe degradation of natural resources and social environment, upon which our survival depend.

IBRAD has now been recognised as Centre Of Excellence under the Ministry Of Tribal Affairs, Government Of India.
